Sunday 12th October 2008. M.B.A. (Midlands Balti Association) Curry Cup Awards Evening.
"The restaurant known as Chilli-Peppers which is situated at Lichfield Road, New Invention, Willenhall is the 2008 winner of the most prestigious and coveted M.B.A. (Midlands Balti Association) Curry Cup. To achieve this they have been judged to have the best curry in their own area of Walsall by a team of experts and then beat the winning restaurants from 8 other Towns.
Last Year the winning restaurant was the Dilshad in Cannock which qualified them to take part in a ‘Cook-off’ in the Houses of Parliament kitchens to find out who has the best curry in the entire country. They had their award ceremony on Sunday 12th of October and the Curry Cup was presented by the secretary of the Balti Association Mr Andrew Brookes. Also attending was the former 2008 Mayor of Walsall Melvin Pitt and the preceding Mayor John Cook along with V.I.P.s from the Curry Industry. They were all treated to a four course champagne dinner and entertained by local comedian David St John and 2 vocalists – Simon Abbott and Lee Osborne. Simon’s very successful Tom Jones Tribute act was featured on the recent B.B.C. s ‘ONE & ONLY’ to an audience of several million viewers. Lee is a highly acclaimed swing and cabaret artiste. In addition, there was a guest appearance by Punjabi recording artiste Naseer Mahmood who performed a singing dancing Bhangra act and helped to present the award."
Sunday 4th May 2008. The Bizarre Spice Restaurant Opening Evening.
I performed an impromptu set of upbeat swing songs by Frank Sinatra, Bobby Darin, Dean Martin, Michael Buble and Matt Monro. Read the report in the Express & Star. See gallery pictures above. Here are just one of the positive comments: "You have one of the best voices I have ever heard, and to entertain in such a busy environment is very impressive."
